Members of WES-Net
The General body of WES-Net India has two types of membership:
- Institutional Members and
- Individual Members
The general body meetings conducted to date have helped to establish WES-Net India. They have also helped determine what WES-Net should do (and what it should not do) and how. It has been agreed for example that WES-Net activities will be supported by its members. WES-Net provides an institutional space and focus for these activities, together with an expanding network of members.
After Registration the Governing Body Meeting Mintues:
Core Group
The core group of WES-Net includes members elected by the general body to guide its activities, and a limited number of special invitees. The elected members represent the governing body for all legal purposes. Special invitees, representing agencies such as the UN, facilitate WES-Net relationship with the Government and external support agencies.
Members of Governing Body (Core Group)
The core group is responsible for the overall functioning of the network and takes all major decisions in consultations with the general body. As per legal requirements, the executive members of the governing board (the secretariat) will manage its day-to-day activities.
Functioning of WES-Net India
At present, WES-Net India operates primarily at the national level and is linked to states and districts primarily through an extension of national membership. Regional activities will be initiated to reach different regions and states of the country shortly.
WES-Net India functions with support it receives from its member organizations to maintain. Examples of the support received to date include:
- UNICEF and Plan International jointly support the secretariat, and the production of WESNet's newsletter
- Plan International has also provided office space, and supports the WES-Net India website
- WSP supported a study of various institutional models for WES-Net India, and has provided specific assistance to WES-Net, such as the preparation of a draft Memorandum of Association
- UNDP supports and manages the Solution Exchange for WES-Net, an e-mail based discussion group
- WaterAid supports the research coordination event, in collaboration with UNDP.
- Pragmatix and AFPRO are jointly supporting the preparation of a database of key sectoral documents
- SPWD, CARE India and FODRA all assisted in the development of MOA and registration processes.
- Apart from these, many active members across the country continue to provide support for various needs of WES-Net that arise time to time.
