Maharashtra Government Introduces Cash Award for Sanitation

The government of Maharashtra has decided to adopt a cash award scheme to reward cities and towns that achieve Total Sanitation. The "Nirmal Shahar" ("Clean/ Sanitized City") scheme was announced immediately following three stakeholder workshops hosted by the government of Maharashtra, and supported by the WSP-SA. Further, the government expressed an interest in improving the effectiveness of the Urban Sant Gadge Baba Scheme, an initiative that recognizes improvements in the delivery of urban services across Maharashtra.
