CMWSSB has proposed to attend to a leak work in the 900mm dia DI water main near the construction site of Road Over Bridge at Perambur on 31.7.09 & 1.8.09. The work will be completed on 1.8.09 at 1.00 pm. Due to this work, piped water supply will be affected on 1.8.09 in Perambur, Otteri, Pulianthoppu in Area III, Kosapettai, Pattalam, part of Choolai and Otteri in Area VII and some parts of Ayanavaram and Sembium in Area IV. Mobile water supply has been arranged to the affected areas. Normal piped supply will be resumed on 2.8.09. The public in these areas are requested to contact the following Telephone Numbers for availing mobile water supply. Co-operation of the public is solicited.

The Ministry of Environment and Forests has taken many initiatives related to climate change which proves that India is not defensive and obstructive. These initiatives are in the field of forestry, energy efficiency, research agenda and CDM capacities. With intensive Afforestation programme, it will create the biggest carbon sink in the world. The Government of India sanctioned a pilot scheme for Repair, Renovation and Restoration (RRR) of 1098 water bodies in 26 districts of 15 states with an outlay of Rs. 300 crore (Central Share of Rs. 225 crore) during X Plan. The Government has further approved a programme for Repair, Renovation and Restoration of Water Bodies with an outlay of Rs.10,000 crore (Central share of Rs.2750 crore) for XI Plan.

The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board is taking up the work of shifting the existing 1300mm dia M.S. Water transmission main and to interconnect this with newly laid 1300 mm dia M.S. main at Kathipara Junction since the existing main falls in the Grade Separator ramp. The interconnection work will commence at 6.00 a.m. on 27.07.2009 and will be completed at 6.00 a.m. on 29.07.2009.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service’s (HHS) Indian Health Service (IHS) today announced $90 million in funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for improved access to vital drinking water and wastewater services in the American Indian and Alaska Native communities. The funds will be invested in ‘shovel ready’ infrastructure projects designed to better protect human and environmental health in Indian Country and to create jobs.
