- Call for Business Plans : New Ventures India

New Ventures India, a Global development Alliance (GDA) between CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre and World Resources Institute (WRI), Washington DC with support from USAID, has issued the first annual call for submission of Business Plans for the acceleration Program for Sustainable Enterprises. New Ventures India will select at least ten finalists that deliver innovative, environmental benefits and are financially viable. The call is open until April 15, 2007. more>>

- Seminar on Latest Technologies on Water Treatment and Solutions

Water Digest is planning to organise seminars on broad areas related to Latest Technologies for Water Related Problem and Cost Effective Solutions for Industrial use in different Industries & cities of India. Initially, it is planning to organsie a seminar that would include topics on Water Management in respective industries (Pulp & Paper, Distilleries, Sugar & Textile) & Waste Water Management & Recycling (Industrial Waste Water Management, Effluent & Sewerage Treatment, Alternative Treatment, Hazardous Wastewater Management & Wastewater Treatment Products) at “Chennai on February 16th & 17th 2007 at Hotel Ambassador Pallava”. - 2008 - International Year of Sanitation

The U.N. General Assembly has declared 2008 as the International Year of Sanitation. It requested the U.N. Department of Economic and Social Affairs to serve as the focal point for the Year and to develop proposals on possible activities, including possible sources of funding. The Year was one of the recommendations of the Hashimoto Action Plan launched by the U.N. Secretary-General's Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation in March 2006 at the 4th World Water Forum.
- NHRC seeks Report from Delhi Govt on Quality of Drinking Water

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Friday sought a reply from the Delhi government on media reports that the drinking water supplied to slum clusters in the city was not fit for consumption. The NHRC report published said that according to a study carried out by an NGO, hazard centre, 92 per cent of water samples collected from five slum clusters and six resettlement colonies were not fit for human consumption.
- NGO to Study Water Bodies Rejuvenation

Coimbatore City Corporation has asked Action for Food Production (AFPRO), a Non-Governmental Organisation, to study the condition of tanks and canals in the city and propose measures to rejuvenate them. It will also have to work out the restoration cost. This is the first time the civic body is appointing a consultant to bail water bodies on its territory out of trouble - caused by encroachments, discharge of untreated sewage and the resultant growth of hyacinth.
